Not a final opinion, of course, but how I feel thus far
1. Campaign:
As usual, feels like a Michael Bay movie. That's a good thing. I'm not looking to think, I'm looking to use cool sh*t to f**k up some characters lives. Didn't expect to have body parts pulled off, bravo on that bit of gruesome detail. Only half way through, but I'm already predicting a double cross by Stabler of Law & Order, cause he always plays that kinda d**k. Treyarch did pretty good here. It's not COD4's campaign (nothing will be), but they definitely put work in on this.
2. Zombies:
Have zero f**king clue what's going on, but it's damn fun. Why do I become a goddamn electrified octopus? What's with the porn sax music? Why was I so turned on by the girl killing the guy in handcuffs? I'll report back when I figure something out.
3. Multiplayer:
Very mixed feelings on this. On the surface, it's COD and it's fun. Nostalgia plays a big part in my enjoyment for any of the latest installments, because there's a bunch of flaws I just can't ignore anymore.
The good:
A. The maps: despite having the new abilities, they've managed to keep the design to the normal "3 lane" approach, while limiting the awful number of possibilities that AW gave (i.e. 18 places to be shot from at all time). Easy to navigate, easy to predict the camping spots, I'm cool with the maps
B. The Sound: they've upped their game with the sounds in this game..guns have more bass, as do the explosions. Directionality is easy to hear through headphones, and sound whoring is possible (while not being game breaking)
C. No panic knifing: f**king refreshing
D. Killstreaks are not overpowered (and no f**king dogs)
E. Hearing Scrub rage....lol.
The bad:
A. The Graphics: Despite having 3 years, and a huge budget, Treyarch still cannot do environments where the players don't blend into the background. If someone is going to hide in a corner, don't have your sh**ty engine help them hide. It's shiny, but real graphics allow you to differentiate between players and the rest. They f**ked up. Spent half my night going "is that a..." "yep, I'm dead"
B. The s***y net coding: Full bars, low ping, but still seeing lag.....yep, it's the call of duty net coding. Ever present since BO1, I felt it in full force last night. Put 4 bullets into a guy (have them register), then have them turn around and insta kill you. This is the single biggest flaw in Call of Duty, and why I usually don't bother even playing. I've heard theories that it's to ensure that all players get, at least, a few kills, and that it's there to compress the skill gap. Not sure if I totally believe it, but it certainly seems plausible. Even if you don't notice the lag, you're still "lagging". F**k that.
C. The Movement: Sure, wall running is cool, and the jumping should be fun (if you never play destiny, where jumping is fluid), but the characters feel like they're running on the beach in deep sand. Not my preference when playing cod. The new moves are pretty unnecessary, and I'd prefer the game without it.
D. Specialist abilities: Completely superfluous to the point of annoyance. Smells of "we Destiny now", which is lazy and unoriginal of the developers. Get better with your ideas. COD does not need more bullsh*t, it needs less
I'll be honest here. The game will not hold my interest, especially with all the cool stuff coming out in the next few months, but it is easy/fun to hop on and talk some sh*t with the crew. It's not the worst COD, not even close, but it's still broken enough that I just can't get behind it. Most of you will disagree, but in two months, when the shine inevitably wears off, I'll be here to hear your complaints. I'll definitely put some time in, see if my opinion changes (and I hope it does), but for right now, I give it a B-

Have to admit, peoples initial impressions of the game have me curious. Not run out and pick up a used copy curious, but I may borrow a copy to see for myself.

give it a rent, if you can, or if you don't care about $60, give it a buy
regardless of the playtime I'll give it, it's worth the money (even just for zombies)

Squirrel...I'm going to buy a PS4 just to play the game in the 21st century. It's a lot of fun....best one since BO1.

I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing A and B.
I blamed A on my poor eyesight. But maybe that's not it. Maybe they really can't be easily seen.
And your B: It's absolutely disgusting and unacceptable in 2015. I'm at the point now that if I join a match, and my ping is 10-15ms, I leave. There's no point in playing because my bullets do not count.
I'll add one more bad: spawns. They're atrocious. Revenge spawns. Spawning players from different teams in the same damned place simultaneously. Die> respawn 5 feet away right in front of the guy who just killed you > die again.
It's a fun game, but some of the flaws need fixing.

No other game gives me the visual problems that COD does, even Battlefield 3/4 allowed you to distinguish targets, at distance, in complex environments better than COD. Then again, DICE constantly updates their engine to keep pushing the boundaries, COD does not. There is no excuse for the blending, especially when you die so quickly.
I did forget to mention the spawns....terrible.

Wait, if you have a 10-15ms ping, you leave? Do you mean 100-150, or did I read that right...
I play on 300ms + each night with some of the boys. 150+ solo. Never seen a ping below 150....and I call that good, and playable.

yep....couple of commentators are talking about this too, the "bullets doing nothing" type of phenomenon, even with good connections
the game has two types of lag, one is really perceptible (by players with high ping like you) and the other, which is much more subtle

Yes. That was not a typo. 10-15ms is unplayable. I'd rather play at 125ms. I average 25-35ms, and it's hit or miss depending on who's in the lobby. My BEST games by far come at around 100ms.
I'll put it in perspective: Playing on Hardcore (because my friends like to play it), I was running with a Haymaker (AA-12. Which is godly in this game). Remember: on HARDCORE. I'll have 4 shots out of the thing at point blank range and not get a hit marker... or even worse, actually get hit markers... with a shotgun... at point blank range... on HARDCORE.
My guess is that when I'm 10-15ms, I'm host.

Virtually every engagement costs me a clip. I used to be able to get 2-4 man feeds on other games (COD4-BO2). Now, I am lucky to get one guy in a 1 v 1, and in a multi-player encounter, they all live, and I die. This is a rule, not an exception to it.
1 v 1, full clip kill.
1 v 2-4, death.
I'm still getting my head around the whole idea of skill equalization, or, a closing of the skill gap.
You make retards feel capable, and capable players feel retarded.
Why not let capable players run the show and force the retards to get better. Either way, one group is being punished, and it just shouldn't be those who have 100+ days sunk into the series.

10-15 ping should be beast mode. Technically speaking.

#69317I've experienced this bullet sponge phenomenon once in a while but what I've noticed most of the time is people have different attachments that give them the advantage (long barrel, FMJ, etc). Most of the time I put it down to lag compensation until I started actually looking at it.
Try different attachments on your guns and see how you do. When we were playing last night Chisa, you were using the KN-44.. a shitty assault rifle.. especially without any attachments.
I wanna get some of my games uploaded but I checked out theater mode and couldn't find my 'bookmarked' games.

I mostly used the vmp, some kuda games, and a few on the AR
I think I did the best with the AR, even with just the reflex sight, but any of those guns would melt one game, then be completely useless the next

I feel that same thing on PS3.
Used a bit of the pharaoh. Then the Kuda. Just unlocked the Shieva, thats a melting gun.... 2 shot kill at any range with shots to anywhere, it just has a pretty slow fire rate. I've dabbled with quite a few guns with mixed results on them all.
But then again, I am on last gen.

#69327There is to many factors that we don't know that could cause some misfire of bullet registry. We don't know if it uses lag compensation, I haven't seen Lag Comp in a cod game since CoD 2 and then it broke the hit boxes which you had to lead your shots not a lag issue. We don't know which server we are getting connected to, or if their geographical region is correct to begin with. Mine says Alto palo California, which I am in NY... We also don't know how it handles parties from different areas.

I understand when it's my Kuda vs. an assault rifle at mid-range. OR if the guy is too far out while I'm using a shotgun. Or if I got 2 shot by a Gorgon, etc etc.
But on Hardcore (because this is where it's most telling), virtually every gun is a one shot kill - 3 at most if you're at max range. Bullet sponges...
But speaking of attachments, etc. What's your favorite assault rifle? I've been hoarding my tokens. I levelled up a Man o' War and I like it (good damage, beastly accuracy) other than the fact that it's vulnerable at close range due to its slow ROF. But I've been wondering about the ICR, burst ARs and HVK.
I wish I had more confidence in my accuracy. I have like 3 legendary and 4 epic skins for the Shieva. Of course I do. Other than snipers, it's the one weapon I'm least likely to use. FML
For SMGs, I haven't seen a need to change out my Kuda. Quick draw and maybe long barrel (I don't see that much of a difference with long barrel). But the Ripper looks interesting when I get to it.

Ive actually been using the sheiva a bit tonight. Its a guaranteed 2 shot kill. It fires slow but it seems to get off the bullets just in time to get some kills.
Give it a whirl. Might surprise you.

Tried the Shieva. Not really my thing. I don't have good snap aim, and you really need it for that. My initial aim always seems to be a little to the left. And if I try to adjust, too far right. Can't seem to find my sweet spot.
But when your aim is on, it's insane in Hardcore. Pretty good in core, so long as an SMG or HVK user isn't in your face.

Started using the HVK tonight.
I really wish I stated using it sooner! Love this AR.
And then I find out it was just buffed today. So maybe I wouldn't have liked it (or not. They didn't say what the buff was. Just a "tweak." Could have just been a slight recoil reduction or something). Also given a light buff were a few snipers, the razorback, and I think one of the shotguns.
The Pharo, Gorgon, Haymaker and VMP were nerfed (again: "slight tweak") as was the burst Ar that cycles if you hold down the trigger (senior moment. Can't remember the name. X something)
I'm beginning to think that the most important thing in BO3 is rate of fire. If that's the case, time to try out the Vesper.

You can rapid fire a lot of the SMG's as well.
Ive noticed a gun will work good my first play through with it.. then it stops working next session. And the class flipping through starts over again.

Worst. Spawns. In. The. History. Of. FPSs. Ever.
Not just CoD... ALL FPSs. They should be embarrassed out how bad these spawns are. I got enough problems. I don't need to spawn with 3 damn people already aimed at me. Or die, respawn, guy who killed me is already aiming at where I spawned, die again... spawn again and die within 2 steps from a guy who the kill cam said just spawned in (I saw him die and respawn in the damned feed!). Or my personal favorite: spawn in with 2 teammates. Of course someone is already aiming into our spawn, but thankfully, said teammates draw the fire, I kill the guy. Take 2 steps. 2 ENEMIES spawn behind me and I'm dead. (I know I've complained about the spawns in a previous CoD, or 2. But I take those back. This is the worst)
IDK. This game can be fun. It has all the tools to be great.
But...
It has MW3's lag compensation. Or poor netcode. Or whatever it is that makes a seemingly good connection actually bad.
Ghost's instadeaths. (Often to guys who haven't even come around the corner yet)
Lackluster maps.
CoD's usual piss poor color scheme that allows one to blend in to walls, corners, and shadows way too easily.
And the worst spawns I've ever seen. Actually makes me long for the days of Ghosts and AW.
Balancing guns? How about fixing the spawns and connections first?!?! The guns aren't that badly imbalanced anyway.
When it's working, the game is insanely fun. But when everything goes wrong... Yeah, I've been trying not to rage quit. Couldn't help myself tonight.
