Kaz, I have 2 friends who don't believe in evolution.
Alright, basically because I don't know where else to put this, I'm going to update my thoughts as I read along.
Enganacious knows his stuff.
Jugz is a moron. It amazes me the excuses people will make to continue believing in faith.
I always thought ik0n was very religious for some reason. I am mistaken.
The words of Jugz: "I was taught that the world is like a product going through a process. For instance, imagine God comes to the shop and orders a table to be made a certain way. The world is a table. God knows how the table will turn out, but he has to wait for it to go through the process of being made. We are in the process.".......................... Someone responds, that is a good theory
I thank Enganacious for saying things to Jugz that I would be saying now if the thread was currently taking place.
LeeJon pleasantly surprised me.
Spook using "incorruptibles" to prove god's existence
3 mentions of following Pascal's wager to be good advice... Oop... Enganacious links Hitchens clip later down the page in response to this
EDIT OKAY JUGZ DOESN'T BELIEVE IN THE BIG BANG EVEN THOUGH HE "took lots of science courses in college (obviously)"

His communist Obama pic pisses me off, he can't even insult someone in a politically logical manner. If I didn't back off it would be 2011 all over again. Kinder gentler chisa

Almost everything in the god thread he says is just complete utter bullshit and a display of ignorance.... He calls himself a scientist too.

Meh, two topics I try to avoid. It's better for my blood pressure. Then again, I think everybody ought to be free to snort a line of coke off the back of a gay midget hooker while firing their AK into the air, as long as they don't hurt anybody else in the process, and I have agnostic tendencies, so it'd be way too easy for me to get into arguments anyway.

It's like any political argument, I don't even bother talking politics online anymore, when 2 sides have such strong opinions you don't get anywhere. That's why Washington DC is in perpetual gridlock.

I'm an argumentative cvnt. I don't know much, but the things I know some sht about, I like to hone and retain my hard earned knowledge by going toe to toe with those who are entithetical to it.
Since I have a dozen or so friends from the webz, I don't give a sht about pissing off the remaining 6 billion +- billion.

It can be a fun way of challenging your own opinions and seeing how strongly you believe in certain things, but I'm more likely to want to argue with someone who believes the earth is 6,000 years old than with someone who is closer to my views, and there is no way either I or the young earther is going to change their opinion on something like that. There's nothing they can say to get me to join their circle of whack jobs, and there's nothing I can say to make them stop thinking that all scientific evidence showing dinosaurs used to exist and the planet is more than a few thousand years old was just planted there by God to test our faith.

Look up Neil deGrasse Tyson or Lawrence Krauss on youtube.
Something that mindfucks me is that, literally, something can from nothing.
I'm no particle physicist as is Krauss but the tl;dr of what he explains as fact is that nothingness is unstable. Something will come out of it. Nothingness is just matter and antimatter together.

wow.. and i don't want to disrespect walk and the site she is trying to save. i know you've put a lot of hard work in, and shown commitment and dedication.
but seriously.. how can you expect to save a idiot where so many idiots reside? not trying to be offensive, but can't believe people lack the ability to think for themselves and realise with rational and logic, that science disproves so many things that are contained in the bible.

Hanson, I'm going to be really honest here. I do not know.
I am a spiritual person, and I do have a belief in God and something else out there. But I do not believe in the bible (old testament), nor organised religion.
I have not studied physics beyond high school education, so my grasp on things like the big bang theory are very basic. But I have looked into particle physics, and from my point of view, I think there is something in it. I am waiting on them finding the Higgs-Boson, and I do not think it is too far away.

#19328Couple of my posts in that thread Hanson.
Love this quote.
So.. I'm far from religious.
I don't believe in any God because I require some proof for such claims. To me, it's the same as believing in Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy. Purpose of life? To re-produce. Otherwise, there is none. Our existence on this planet is merely an accident.
Scientology has just as much proof for it as Christianity, Islam or any other religion.
Love this quote.
"Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime. Give a man religion and he'll starve to death praying for a fish."
So.. I'm far from religious.

I'm just chipping in here:
Only reason one should believe in religion is to be grounded to reality. To feel significant. After all, when you feel significant, you feel empowered and confident, which allows you tp lead a good life.
I hate the fact these fuarking extremists man. Religion basically encourages the Golden Rule, but these D-Bags disregard this, and pretty much cause trouble in the name of religion.
My personal beliefs are a mixture of science/religion. I believe in God, but I believe in Evolution, and I'm open to logical debate.
I'm sorry, but what was the thread about again?

#19379I tend to take a work approach when referring to two topics, politics and religion, it's just better to not get into it.
That being said, I swear I could get elected if I ran for president when I hit 35 and this was my platform; "I'm founding the common sense platform. We believe in social liberalism and financial conservatism. What does that mean? Gay rights, abortion, etc...it's your body, your life, do what you want with it. BUT, the government is going to pick up your pieces when you fail from bad choices. The government is going to stay small because it's cheaper, and we're not going to tax the life out of those that give jobs, providing more people to tax. Those are our values and we're sticking to it. If you have common sense and are tired of partisan politics, vote Youngblood in 2020."
Youngblood for president.

Because I am not saving it for them.
Looking at it from a straightforward standpoint it would make sense to lock down the forums and force their hand.
- Get rid of three to four people that contribute nothing except ill will and attitude
- Force people to be nice.
- Force people to welcome new members.
- Have everyone accept everything and all threads.
Problem is I cannot operate like that. I could get rid of a couple of people but others would complain and the resulting BS that would take place would probably irritate me more. I cannot force people to be nice and I refuse to ask the moderation team -or myself- to rewrite peoples posts with a more charming spin. I cannot ask people to put aside what they believe and just accept that there are going to be campers and or untoward types of behavior on the forums. People have to be able to voice their opinions.
I cannot force people to welcome new members. The problem with this is that almost everyone that I know from other forums that has gone to C4B has come back to me and said that their main complaint about it or what they see is that the forums do not give off a friendly vibe. And while on the outside it might look like this comes from just those people who are the troublemakers it really is not. It comes from a lack of enthusiasm from everyone. Lack of posting, lack of interest in new members threads or posts and a general been there done that attitude.
I don't know how to fix that.
One thing I can tell you is that somewhere along the way certain forum veterans got it into their heads that those forums exist solely for them that it is their forum. It does not matter to them if the place grows because they like it the way it is... them with their bag of entitlement all high and mighty sitting at the back of the bus.
Veterans should feel entitled? Yes they should feel entitled to protect the forums but at the same time be welcoming to new members and creating an environment where new members are encouraged to make threads and ask questions.
With new members comes new growth and new conversations and new friends. The reality of it is however that certain members do not want anyone new to join the forums.
The only thing I can do for now is steer the forums in what I think is the best direction for its growth. I am doing this -accepting everything and everyone- while slowly leaning the forums back towards its roots and not forgetting the RUSH mentality that used to permeate the boards. The change from a family atmosphere and one of friendliness where members actually cared about each other to what it is now did not happen overnight and it will take some time undo.
Where before I wanted the forums to be what they were, with the tools I had it would not get there. Now with the domain change and not being stuck with the moniker of "4" I think things will be able to move forward more quickly. I hold no illusions that it will never be the same and frankly I don't want it to now. But it has to be different and it has to change and if I am involved in it then it will have to be a change for the good because I cannot see myself settling for change that is just happens to be a different form of what it is now.
