What's wrong with C4B?
I have been battling with posting this or a similar thread for a relatively long time. And finally today after talking with iEntry I decided that I needed to ask for input from the very people that started there.
I have admins and moderators from three other sites brain storming and pointing traffic to C4B. I have taken over the responsibilities as admin not out of any financial gain but because I love the site for what it means to me as a bridge to the friendships I have made. I also understood that by taking on admin duties I would be further limiting myself in the capacity as a regular forum member and contributor.
After taking over as admin I began to realize the depth and scope of what it takes to run the site and to run a site that went from being the largest COD site out there to a five year old shell of its former self. I do not think that a lot of people understand what is entailed with the operations of the site behind the scenes and I think that this lack of information makes it easy to dismiss the site as dying or dead. Any questions you all might have I will try to answer.
But this is not a thread about my woes as admin. This thread is intended to try and find out why -now that time and hands have passed- some of you still refuse to get involved again or are involved in a very limited capacity with a site that could be in many cases thought of as the base of a lot of the friendships that have grown between members.
If you have any insight as to what I can do to increase your interest I would be most anxious to hear them.
One of the main problems with any site that is older and has a family atmosphere is that at the same time everyone is close it also allows for the formation of cliques. For a new comer that can be hard to transition into and even for other members it can be a daunting task. There is no way around the "newbie" "veteran" mentality and all forums have it to some degree.
The way that I see it is the veterans have an obligation to protect the forums but at the same time be welcoming, encouraging and helpful to new members. For the most part with what little active members C4B has left this is the case. Every now and then someone will show up that trolls the community but the forum members and or moderators handle it. Likewise every now and then people will sign on just to say "Wow this place is dead". Which in my mind is the same thing and instead of promoting and helping the site only furthers the decline of it. No new members want to stay on a site when the first post they read is negative. I am not saying that any of you do this, it is just an example.
So again I love the site. Call me sentimental but I love the site because it is a reminder of where I met you all making some of the best e-friendships I have ever had.
So -and you are not under any stress to answer, though I would like you to answer- is it that you all are just over the dealing with people who may have different thoughts on gaming than you? Is it that you still hold some resentment toward a particular member that still lurks there? Is it that the site just does not hold the same value for you that it once did? Or is it some other reason?
I mean I truly want to know the answers as to why some/most of you stay away from the site.
I doubt very much that the site will be as popular as it was 4 - 5 years ago but I do have a feeling that the site is again gaining popularity.

For me, it comes down to what I want out of my internet time, and it's to talk with the people that I game with and enjoy as people. This has become our locker room to talk about whatever we want, however we want. I don't even think we talk about gaming all that much, besides the new game talk. There's no arguing (lately) about camping or some drop in poster putting up a head glitch video and bragging. It's all the good stuff, and it's small enough to keep it manageable.
As far as I'm concerned, 99% of the only remaining good things in the COD community, are here. I'm not interested in dealing with a type 95 assassin poster and the same ridiculous arguments over and over. I'm not interested in reading posts justifying the typical awful play style.Without the people here, I'd never play COD, because I despise the community. Truly. They represent almost the direct opposite of everything I believe in life on a metaphorical level with COD.
I wouldn't mind a few others coming over here from C4B, some of the old regulars, but beyond that I really have no use for a giant COD website.

#18059I never cared for the site. I joined, met Syn, he recruited me, I met Chisa, alpha, shadow, moose, spook, zcs, Natas, and others here.
We share the same likes and have good conversations no one would care for over there.
Not interested in the overly serious website.
We have our people and newbies here, they can manage without us there.

Youtube has taken away the need for people to get information from a forum.
Over moderation pretty much killed the off topic area

I just know C4B isn't what it's used to be. Don't go on there much anymore.

I care about people, not sites, so as long as I can still talk to certain people, I don't care too much where I need to post to stay in contact with them.
Almost everyone is here. It's like our own little club. The main reason I still visit C4B is because of the Battlefield forum and people like Empty and Koolaid posting there.
Another thing that speaks for L3 is that the little CoD talk that goes on here isn't dedicated to defending kill whoring in objective modes or camping.
So should EB and Koolaid ever decide to finally register here and we'll get a something going like my "cool stories, bro" over there... goodbye C4B.

Empty Box, over here, would result in a 90% reduction in regulars posting here.

I stopped going there, and stopped giving even on ounce of sht about him after receiving PM after PM from people who were tired of being raked over steaming sht by him.
Played online with him a few times and found him borderline retarded.
If the asumption is that he's grown, then great. Growth seemed to be his only option given bredth and depth of the hole he continually burrowed.

I don't like COD, but I like this group. Thus I don't go to C4B.
But cliques can be infiltrated if the group is friendly, just look at me. I never thought in a million years that I would be a part of the group with such prestigious players like Alpha and Shadow (and someone as sarcastic as Chisa)

#18080I stopped going when all the talks went from Supporting rushing to supporting camping.
Shit, I joined that site now and probably never meet any of you, I would be a camper. Hands down. But CD taught me. Anyway, EB should be here for BF resources, he's not bad, Post will get bigger but no big deal. I also stopped going because of endless fighting, endless support for farmers, camping be the correct way and the rushers who help made it were pushed out. I post very limited.

I stopped going there when LA was created.
Another reason was because it wasn't a forum anymore, it was a blog.
people like EB and that other dude, were condescending. every post was them trying to flex their E-peen
