so you remember my old thread. PC boots wont get past manufactures splash screen. It doesnt get to the point of loading windows. My quick fix was to disconnect USB stuff. Drew less power made it through boot process. Well now its not making it. I made it into my BIOS. Im lookin at "PC health status". I can see the Volts as follows:
CPU Vcore 1.296v
Chipset Voltage 1.344v
+3.3 - 3.37v
+5 - 5.053v
+12 - 11.968v
etcetc
I can see that my 12 volt rail is only producing 11.9 which is probably insufficient. I also went and looked at to see if it could read my drives. Most modern Pcs have 1 large drive and another much smaller to boot Windows from right? Because BIOS only showed my Large drive and my dvd drive. Never made mention of a smaller drive. So either its a bad HDD (which also happens to have OS), the PSU is faulty and its not supplying enough power to power that hdd, or im retarded and am thinking of a drive not there.
LONG POST i typed out with a PS3 controller.
Think im goin to disconnect dvd drive

your video card might have died.
i was in the middle of a COD4 game and the screen suddenly went pink and then i got the microsoft blue screen with the fatal error message. did a hard restart and the manufacture screen came up but windows never booted. just a black screen. bought a new video card the next day and it fixed the problem.

I disconnected DVD drive and it still didnt work.
Disconnected Video card and it booted up fine.
I think the card works okay... It just doesnt have enough power. How else can I test the card? I have no other PC's to put it in, and no other PSU's to put in my current tower to see if that helps. lol.
EDIT: P.S. This site and screen look MESSED up with no gfx card. I can see massive lines in the background of this site now lol. All my gradients, are not gradients.

you should be able to buy a card, install it, and then return it to the store if it doesnt work. might wanna double check with whatever store's return policy.Syndrome wrote:Ive gotten past the Manufactures screen with no USB things plugged in. Why would you want to use more buttons than on a controller?

So... back to the topi of the thread.
PC turned on fine yesterday. Today, go to turn it on... sits on manufactures splash screen. Thats with my Disc drive not hooked up, my card readers not hooked up, and my gfx card not hooked up. ARGHHHHHHHHHHH
SO since I took my gfx card out, I figured I could safely put my old PSU back in the PC (The one the pc came with... (bought a put together pc long time ago, added my own PSU and gfx card to it). I assumed if it WERE the PSU and I put the new one back in, I could power it on with my mouse already hooked up (Been taking everything out of USB slots before powering on to get it to work). SO with mouse attached I power it on with old PSU. Starts up and works normal.
If it continues working normal over next 2 days I'll know for sure it was PSU. And ill have to buy a new one. :/
