That's fcking sad....on so many levels.
Sad because there continues to be this push for more sugar, more salt, larger portions, more oil, more deep frying, lower quality meats, etc.
Sad because people value feeding an addiction (be it sugar, salt, fast food, soda/pop, chips, snacks, etc) over taking care of the one thing that you'll have for a lifetime.
Sad because this really is only 50% of the story. More and more people are doing less and less physical activity.
Sad because people learn what they are taught. There is a cycle of abuse, alcoholism, drug abuse, teen pregnancy, etc....and now there will be a cycle of obesity.
And sad because picking the slimmist fat btch is a bit like picking the smallest hammer to smash your balls with.

NY times published an article saying that being fat is okay, as long as you're "fit"
my out of shape sister in law posted it, seems like she's trying to compensate for her laziness

I say we leave medicine out of it from now on. Stick with the facts here.
Fat is disgusting. We don't want people to be disgusting.
That way, no one can hop in and make it seem ok to be fat.

#19677I've never been skinny.. never will be. I've always had an athletic build. I've noticed things these past few years though with the reduced amount of exercise and my metabolism slowing down. I could always do the "duck walk" and palms on the floor with knees straight.
These two are giving me more trouble recently with the extra padding in the midsection. It's not good for you at all, you can feel it in your day to day mood. When I recently lost 15lbs I was feeling a lot better. Gained it back but I won't give up and will eventually reach my goal no matter what it takes.

I've dropped about 40 lbs now and feel MUCH better. It wasn't even a case of overeating but of eating the wrong things. Cutting down on the salt and sugar helped a great deal, but so has giving up cheese and cutting way down on wheat.
An acquaintance is popping diet pills like candy and still gaining weight, because she insists on eating double portions of fast food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and she always has her hand in a bag of chips. I tell her it's about eating better, but she says she doesn't have time. How can you not have time to at least order less fast food and put away the chips?

I don't buy the excuse of "doesn't have time", frozen chicken breast doesn't take long to cook, neither does scrambled egg whites in the microwave, there's plenty of options to eat better that take just a little time to cook

When you eat right and exercise, the weight will come off. I've kept 40+ pounds off for 4 years. I eat like crap every now and then, but I don't do it continuously. I did have to fight the temptation to go buy some Blue Bell Banana Split ice cream last night... It's SOOOO good.

Hell, even just putting down the chips, replacing soda with water, and maybe ordering one burger instead of two, would not take any time at all but would already be a big step in the right direction.
Also, taking stairs instead of elevators and escalators and parking further away can help a little.

My wife had always battled her weight. When we got together, I found out how and why this was the case.....and it's the same with my sister, and some of my friends.
People who say they "try everything" are full of sht. My wife was one of those people. Resigned herself to being "troubled by weight".
She asked, I responded. Before we lived together, we cleaned the cabinets of all her sht food (candy and baking mostly). Those pounds she thought were genetics, or part of the parcel....we maintained by the constant sugar and calories.
I heard the most brilliant diet advice....from a fitness competitor of all people...."when you're trying to lose weight, you have to get used to feeling hungry for a while."
Losing weight isn't about starving yourself, it's about adjusting your body to fewer calories than you've been giving it. 1800 calories from soda and juice per day, plus all the meals with large portion sizes, plus all the snacks, plus all the desserts....and it's easy to see an 8000 calorie day. If nothing is expended other than homeostatic processes, weight will pack on and the body ends up needingthose 8000 calories just to maintain homeostasis.
My sister is unable to eat properly. Not from lack of money, or inability to cook....but because she has no edit function on what she eats.
There is no secret to it. Small portions, clean food, exercise. Feel a bit hungry until your stomach adjusts and keep going.

So very true. You have to learn not to respond to every hunger feeling, and over time, your body will learn to adjust and you'll actually be less hungry. I've noticed that the better I've been eating, the less I've wanted to eat. When the fuel is of a higher quality, you need less quantity.

It's hard....a lot of people blame impulse eating, or boredom eating....on this biological trigger. Sure, you can argue this trigger from an evolutionary perspective, but the fact remains, it's a condition of first world culture to be able to be so well fed that you can go beyond satiation, or necessity, and actually create a situation where you have conditioned your body to "need" food, even though there is absolutely no risk of you dying from starvation.
The recipe is, and always will be, take in fewer calories than you expend and you will lose weight.
Hunger may be a temporary by product.

I've been close to 4' 11" with 5'1" or thereabout, but never 90 lbs. Women in southern Texas tend to be a little bigger, so add another forty to fifty pounds on average. Damn near makes me afraid of snapping poor lil 4' 11" / 90 lbs in half
