lol ouch.
I like catching more than I do fishing. Helps to be mobile.
Gotta keep moving somehow, and I don't want to go to a gym.

Nah I hear ya. I just visually picture in my head sitting on a boat or something somewhere in the sun roasting away and not moving too much... besides the fight of the fish.
Is it difficult reeling in and such in a kayak?

I've been looking at Kayaks for a year. I need a 2 seater though, and if I buy 1 the gf is gonna wanna go and then I'll need another 2 seater. vest, paddles, other stuff.. it would be $1500 to go float in the water.
Don't think it's the same in a 9ft deep bayou compared to a lake

Nah. Your perspective is different, as you're sitting so close to the water, compared to a boat or shore angler, but thats about it.Syndrome wrote:Is it difficult reeling in and such in a kayak?
Two tandems? We call those divorce boats.Alpha wrote:I've been looking at Kayaks for a year. I need a 2 seater though, and if I buy 1 the gf is gonna wanna go and then I'll need another 2 seater. vest, paddles, other stuff.. it would be $1500 to go float in the water.

You'll drop some money getting into it, but once you have everything you listed, thats it.
Avg depth of SF bay is 8-9ft.

I just keep picturing you sitting forward and then rotating your upper torso left or right to reel in and catch. I dunno. Lemme go watch a youtube video lol.
Just watched this vid
DOesnt seem as bad as I had it in my head. And thats a big ass fish.
Watched another vid before this one, and the guy had waders on and was hanging his feet over the side of his kayak into the water. That something you ever do? Or is there a balance issue and you dont want to flip?

Lol the guy yelling in that video had me dyin.
Yeah, usually wear waders. If it's cold, staying dry is comfy, and wearing shorts in nice weather almost guarantees sunburnt legs. On the ocean I wear a wet suit.
Sitting in one position can get tiring, hanging your feet in the water (straddle, sidesaddle) helps keep you moving around and fight fatigue. Straddling the kayak can also add stability if you get caught parallel to a swell or boat wake. But really, they are nowhere near as tippy/unstable as people think they are.

We have to cruise down the intercoastal a bit to get into the lakes and canals. Ain't no body trying to battle barges in a kayak. So would have to bring it on our boat then put it in the lake lol

Posted this nearly two years ago, and then never did anything with it lol...
Finally buckled down, and over the last two weekends, finished it.

Water warmed up and work came to a halt. Hoping to have it ready for the rockfish opener (June 1).

Spring is just around the corner! First try of the year, got an early halibut by bouncing a bucktail around on the bottom.

Would love to trade fishing spots. You come here and catch 125 and I'll go there and catch something other than the same 7 freshwater over n over.

I have a rule that I can't live anywhere not within reasonable driving distance to stripers.
How far are you from the gulf? I know it's probably already here somewhere, but don't wanna dig lol. I imagine if I lived out there, I'd probably be smashing out to the coast on the weekends as much as possible.

2 hours. A lot of people just buy a 20-24 ft bay boat and fish both year round. Depending on what's biting, keep twice as many reels at home.

Had our annual salmon trip with the guys from work (boss paid) a couple weeks back. Only 5 fish caught all day, and I got the only limit. Fish on the right was the jackpot fish, too. Worth $240 cash.

Starting to get cold over here. I imagine in Cali its fishing weather just about year round?

You can fish year round, but the target species change. The past few years, I fish until late November or so, and then switch over to building rods until spring.
Got one on the table now about halfway done. Progress came to a halt last February when the halibut showed up.

Never was into the cold fishing. Or the extreme heat.
As we age, you realize you really don't like freezing or sweating profusely.
