So I know many of us have an issue with lag and I was thinking of ways to improve it. What if most of this lag was input lag from the PS3 to our TV's? I game on a regular cheap LCD Panasonic 32'' HDTV which has some input lag. Before this TV, I bought a 37 insignia HDTV that was literally unplayable and I returned it. I think Alpha games on an CRT TV which has zero input lag, i use to game on one in our living room. Back when I did game on this TV, I did much better. Even when I go back to COD4, gaming is not the same. My stats have suffered ever since changing TV's and I wonder if it really makes that much of a difference.
I have been thinking about getting a computer monitor to game on. I have read the refresh rates and response times are generally fast and good for gaming, so it may eliminate this so called input lag. I think Scrub games on one, so hopefully he can chime in.
What are your thought on this?

Kaz will give you the definite answer, as he has cycled through about 6 tv's for this very reason.
I play on a 28" Hanspree LCD HDTV. Love it.

might be on to something there. I used a small LCD PC monitor awhile ago. Was pretty decent. Now use a 32' LCD cause I find the larger one a bit iffy like you said.

CRT, won't go to HDMI inputs. There is obvious delay, enough that you would have to be ahead to react the same time as them.
Not sure on component set up, but i don't see the flat screens keeping up with the speed of the big ass box TVs. Monitor may be the way to go.

I appreciate all the responses guys. I hooked up my laptop to my TV through HDMI and noticed this input lag through watching videos and movements of the mouse. Even going through the PS3 XMB, or whatever its called, menu there is some delay. Maybe about a 1/4 second or so.
Another thing that got me thinking about this is one night was watching an NFL playoff game at my cousins co-workers house before going to a poker tournament. He had this brand new LED TV like a 55" or so. Then, I noticed he had a recliner with a small TV, might have been a monitor, on top of a night stand and an Xbox hooked up to it. I was wondering why he didn't use the brand new flat screen. He was a huge gamer since he had MW3 and BLops2 posters, among other games.
I may pick up a monitor this weekend to try it out.

If you are thinking Gaming monitor. Asus have the lowest screen delay at 2ms on most if not all of their screens. They are sexy too

I was looking into the ASUS brand monitors. The only thing now is how much to spend on this monitor. I wanted to spend 100 at first but now may go up to 150 for a decent one.

Lol. I was testing the lag on the XMB while in 720 and then in stardard definition. Its slightly less when in stardard definition but it looks horrible.

The lag in Black Ops 2 isn't input lag. Input lag feels totally different, it is consistent and not jumpy.

Thanks Smoke.
Vette - I'm sure there is some delay on my TV, including the lag from the actual game. Its just a matter of how much. There are times when I cant even get a shot off and there are times where we are about even. I'm very rarely ahead of anybody while having a great connection. I'm thinking monitors have better response times and input lag which can help with FPS.

This is gonna have to wait. I efffing lost my damn wallet and I already cancelled my card.
I really hope it makes a hell of a difference. May have to move my PS3 to the CRT just to confirm its not my POS TV.
Edit: I did play on the CRT and noticed a huge difference. I was finally able to kill multiple people with one clip and was dieing less. My k/D went up as did my SPM in HQ. Hopefully the monitors can dish out similar performance as the CRT's.

I ended up getting the ASUS VE247H for 200. It was the only one that I could find local and didnt want to wait a week from ordering online. The picture is amazing and its really responsive. Inout lag is very minimal. My K/D has gone up from 1.09 to 1.15. The old Mick is back.
I am now becoming more consistent in going positive. It really has made a difference so far.

Try to throw C4 and instead pulling out your clicker is now referred to as "Micking yourself".
