#46351So far in life, I have been lucky with $100 beater here and there to get me through. The last car I bought for $1,000 officially shit the bed after 6 months. So I decided to upgrade. I got an '08 Pontiac G6 with only 26,000 miles on it for $276 / month that includes a 3 year bumper to bumper warranty.
Thing that sucks is since I'm in the "risk pool" at 24, my insurance sky-rocketed to $186 / month. I can't wait until October when I can fix that situation.

Dat nuts. Switched from Progressive to State Farm to knock another $30 a month off. Still think $100 a month for a vehicle that sees 6,000 miles a year is too much, going to see if they can drop it again.

I thought to be insured by the state was a 1 time fee of 50k. Unless that's just Texas.

It better have 8 or more cylinders and 300 horsepower minimum.

Age has nothing to do with it. My sister pays $100 and shes 21.
What does factor into your insurance is location, credit history, claims per capita (accidents accounted for in your zip code), and accidents/violations. You don't know how insane the algorithm is for insurance rates, which varies state by state.
reference: insurance agent for 10 years with Nationwide.

Why would credit history matter? Is there a link between paying your bills and crashing your car?

Mine dropped days after turning 25. With a happy bday letter lol
with those algorithms, should be paying $25 a month. Live in the country all middle class English speaking people that work not milking government for a living, no crime, no accidents, no tickets, vehicle doesn't get cranked 4 days a week. No way in hell my insurance should be more than the gas bill.
Its a scam and as crooked a living as lawyers. They over charge and don't help to full extent, just to their comfort and whatever cost them the least to get by.

Not sure if credit scores play any role for anyone in the UK. But in the US, credit scores help lower/raise your rates. Accidents and violations are the same thing. Paying any bill in connection to your name/social when making late payments are seen in credit history.
And, being 25 doesn't always mean your insurance rate will drop. In some cases, driving experience of more than 3 years or more (from 15/16 yrs old) almost always trumps the 25/yr age analogy on insurance. If you were 18, just getting a license, and never been on your parents policy or any policy for that matter, then companies see that and surcharge you a fee for no insurance history/credit.
Should I keep going?

Ik0n wrote:Age is DEFINITELY a factor and the risk pool is younger with female drivers. Told by multiple insurance companies that it'd be smarter to wait until I'm 25 to start shopping for different insurance because of how much better rates I could get.
False.
Multiple insurance companies will always state this, especially when they "recommend" to start shopping when you're 25. They say this so they can keep you in their system, knowing you can find a better rate.
As I stated to you in my OP, Age, Location, Credit history, driving history, Accidents/violations and at times insurance credit history play a factor in lowering your rates any any age. 25 is just a recommendation since most don't even live on their own at that age, and still rely on mommy and daddy to pay some/most of their bills. (no offense).
The waiting until you're 25 scheme is silly. Shop around, see what you're bound to get without waiting.
