Just watched a very interesting 30for30 film on ESPN about Steve Bartman, the infamous Chicago Cubs fan who, in 2003, tried to catch a ball in a playoff game (game 6) i think but unintentionaly took the ball away from a Cubs player who was trying to catch the ball and end the innings which would have won the series for Chicago. Ended up being the turning point in the game as Florida then went onto win the game and subsequently win game 7. This extended the Cubs long run without a world series and the blame for Chicago not winning the trophy turned solely to Bartman and THAT play. He became public enemy number one in his hometown and images of what i saw from the aftermath was pretty disgusting. Heres the play im referring to...
Now i was at school at the time and remember the story getting some coverage over here and i can recall seeing it on tv. I probably laughed about it at the time but i wsnt laughing when i watched the film today, i was pretty pissed off. What happened to this guy after that incident was fcking horrible. The media and asshole Chicago fans ruined this guys life. He is still in hiding today! People throwing beer and spitting at him, trying to fight him and sending him death threats all because these idiots needed a scapegoat for another of their teams shortcomings. Now you yanks will probably remember it a whole lot better than me and if you havent already seen the film im referring to then id highly recommend giving it a watch. Ill leave the whole video at the bottom. Its an emotional film and you cant help but feel sorry for the poor guy and anger at the way he was treated by people in his own city. How many of these people would have done the exact same thing if they were in his shoes and had a chance to catch a ball at the game? Fck Chicago fans, long may this 'curse' continue imo.
Catching Hell full film...

1 foul ball loses a best of 7 game series. Every fktard who ever put Cubs symbol on knows this.

#44236Let's be clear here, Cubs wouldn't have won if he caught that foul ball.. they were still up 3-0 with 1 out and a 3-2 series lead. Tell Alex Gonzalez to field a simple ground ball or Sammy Sosa to hit the cut off man.
Cubs fans are idiots for making that guys life a living hell when they had a TON of chances to win that series.. that didn't decide it and even if it did... it's a ****ing game, get over it.

Yeah, a ****ing "game" to a 5th grader. These are paid athletes. It's more than a game, its a ****ing playoff game. Paid Athletes. Paid. Over. Paid.
Pay me 2 million dollars to lose a World Series. I'd STFU and never mention that season again.

baseball is crazy.. we moan about 'soccer' player wages and think they are overpaid, but when watching baseball and hear lines dropped like 'he's signing a 14 million a year contract' like it's nothing, it makes me

So because they're paid, they're athletes and it's the playoffs.. someone can't make a mistake? Let alone a FAN who was doing what ANY fan would have done in that situation. It's in their job description to perform to the best of their abilities, not be fool proof and win a championship every single year.
Don't get me wrong, they are overpaid to play a game, I agree with that. However, even when I was in 5th grade I realized it was a game. To let a game get to the point where you're threatening someones life over a foul ball.. you need counseling.

Shit, for $30 million dollars, you better believe I'd get mad a **** at someone who took away any opportunity to win a game. Though, to your original statement about them not winning the next few games is the Cubs way of sucking.
And yes, the threatening part in the Chicago area was a bit absurd.

homescrub is the only person on the planet that cares for the game if he were to make 20 million a year.
Filthadelphia fans also beat thie shit out this old man a decade or so ago. Left him in the hospital with broken bones.
philly is the one city I wouldn't care if something happened to it or its people. Terrorist go there and leave the rest of us alone.
