are you ready for the most epic story ever?

so we are cooking dinner at the station around 4:30 in the afternoon. the alarm goes off for a house on fire and we drop everything and run to the engine and take off. we are gearing up and we hear ambulance 31 on the radio saying "we've got a column" (large column of smoke 99% of the time it means we've got a confirmed house fire). engine 31 gets onscene first and tells us to stage by a hydrant and establish water supply when they give the command. we get there and we are just sitting in the engine cooking in our gear. (the minute you put your gear on, your usefulness clock starts ticking. your body temperature starts rising and the window in which you will be useful on the fireground starts closing.)
engine 30 arrives after us and is assigned RIT duties (stand outside and do nothing, be ready in case they have to go in and rescue a firefighter). for some reason, command switches duties and makes US the RIT team and assigns engine 30 to water supply (this is never done, the last arriving company is always RIT team). so we are pissed off because we got shafted and the RIT team never gets to do anything. little do we know, that is about to change.... dun dun dunnnnnnn.
so here we are, standing outside this burning house cooking in our gear. about 15-20 minutes goes by and we hear over the radio "engine 15 go relieve engine 31 from fire attack". so we go inside and this place is epicly creepy. its a 1 story house with about 5 or 6 add ons making it a 2 story in the back. (add ons are a pain in the ass because when they add onto existing structures it creates void spaces that we cant get to, fire loves to hang out and travel in those voids. usually lots of void spaces means the house is going to be lost.) also, this house was like a maze, there were hallways that just dead ended, etc. the first floor was not involved with fire, it was the second floor that was burning. so we walk through the first floor and the homeowner has a shitload of creepy shit in this open hallway, like chucky dolls and a battery powered little demon thing with a sensor so that every time you walked by it, it would say "i am a demon of hell and im watching you!"
there was no access to the second story from the first story (retarded but that's what happens when you have add-ons) so we had to punch a hole through the ceiling and put a ladder up there. we punched straight up into the first story's attic. i went up the ladder with a hoseline and started putting out the fire in the attic. before i know it, im tangled up in coils of f*cking hot wire that had been the structure of a now melted AC duct. (we have been in our gear for about 30 minutes at this point and fatigue is starting to set in). I have to abandon my fire attack and focus on freeing my self from the wire. (imagine being in a 4ft tall x 4ft wide room trying to untangle yourself from wire, then put on a bunch of movement restricting gear and thick ass gloves to where you cant even feel the wire in your hands.) by the time i was untangled, i was exhausted. my partner comes up there and takes over fire attack and i am now trying to breech a sheetrock wall looking for more fire. i realize suddenly that the fire had burned the roof off from right above our heads, so we stand up and we are now looking out onto the roof. i can barely muster the strength to be in a standing position.
a crew that had been on the roof already, saw us and pulled us up and out of the attic and we are just layed out on the roof. luckily the fire is now under control and knocked out. so we walk to the ladder on the other side of the house and go down. our captain gets on the radio and asks the ambulance crew to come over and check me out. ive got all these people around me trying to pull my gear off and i said "get away from me, im fine, im just really f*cking tired." i take my own gear off and the ambulance comes and checks my blood pressure, which was 160/60 (normal is 120/80) and my heart rate was 185.
so we rest for about 10 minutes and then we gear back up and start tearing out walls and sheetrock trying to find the last of the fire. once the smoke had cleared, we realized how much of a death trap this house was. we finally get everything soaked down and cleared of fire at about 7:30 pm. so we pack up and head home to the station to load our hose back on the engine.
we get back and start loading.... and about 4 blocks away, a high voltage transformer explodes, killing power to every house in our area, including the station.
we were without power and AC for about 2 hours. that sucked. yesterday sucked. i slept until 2pm today. today rules.

Sounds like somebody wanted to kill some firefighters tonight. That creepy doll thing would of told me to get out of the house and let the fucker burn.
