Why bother spending your money on tech gadgets that stink?
Had a guy give me the gayest escuse why he purchased a Kindle tablet over leading brands like the Nexus 7 or an iPad mini/Ipad 3/4, and its because he said "It was $129, and its for school and books..."..
Buying a Kindle tablet is like buying a car on bricks.

I don't get people. I would rather buy something that can get actual use, which does a lot more than just be an e-reader, and not have to feel frustrated with junk apps like the Amazon App store. The Kindle is the biggest piece of trash I've ever held and used, and would never recommend one.
You want books? Google Play and iTunes have books, and many other apps too offer books. Kindle's are the next best thing to coffee tables.
Just had to get that out there. Bothered me because its like buying something that is shit, and convincing yourself that it isn't so you justify your terrible purchase by posting it online for everyone to see to be sure you made the right choice.

I wasn't even aware that you got one. lol, sorry bro.
To add to my story so you don't feel like this is a personal attack, the guy bragged about having all these gadgets, like high end Dells and shit.
So, why settle for a Kindle!? That's why I'm confused and baffled by his decision. You get high end products, but skimp on a shit tablet? I was just dumbfounded.

Exactly my point!
Why feel like you need a Dell XPS, and other high end products to brag about, but then totally shit in your pants over a Kindle?
My thing is, if I buy a Mac, I want it for the experience. Not because its just for browsing Reddit. Then its a total waste of money.

I own my macs because they're easy to integrate into everything....my apple tv is hooked into my surround sound reciever, so I can play all the music/movies on my big mac with 2 tb or storage, through my tv. I can control my receiver with my iphone. I buy things according to what I need
that guy sounds like an idiot

$99 vs $400 for reading books. Which one you choose?

If you got the cash.
There are other factors as well. Like the screen you are reading on. Ipads are glossy and bright. Can only read on that for a set amount of time before you strain your eyes. Kindle/Nook are designed specifically for reading.

Lame excuse is lame.
Simple solution - buy a screen protector that helps reduce sun reflection. I got it on my iphone and its cheap at $20.
Regular consumers can be slow. But for someone who is a video editor, has expensive electronics, nice cars, etc and decides to get something cheap which works like Sarah Jessica Parker, is just poor decision making.
I don't always vote with my wallet, but when I do, I get what I feel is best and worth the investment. A kindle isn't an investment. The return rate on those things is astounding because they suck.

Yeh.. if money really isn't an issue.. I cannot see why you'd go for a Kindle. It's not an android tablet at all. Even if they try to market it as such.
iPad or Nexus seem the logical choices on what's out there right now. Like Scrub mentioned, if you want to read, there are plenty of apps out there which can simulate quality as good as found on a Kindle.
I'm with Chisa though, when it comes to books, I want to have a real one.

The Kindle Paper White is just an ebook reader. It mimics the readability of an actual book by e-ink not by an led screen like a laptop or a screen like a Kindle Fire. It really is like reading from a traditional book.
There are some books I have not transferred over to my Kindle that I prefer to read over my Kindle. Those books would really really old or valuable and or the feeling I get reading them I cannot get from an ereader I have to actually be holding the tome in my hands.
Grimm's Fairy Tales for instance.
