SO now that it summer here in the US... I was wondering what you guys have to do around your homes. Things to get stuff ready for the summer.
I have to (out of what i can think of)...
Open the pool (which involves a ton more than you think).
Check the gutters and siding on the house to make sure there are no damages that occured.
Tune-up for the Lawn Mower (riding and Push).
Empty the gas out of the Snow-blower.
Fertilize the lawn.
Cycle the Hot tub (FLush the water clean the tub out re-fill). This yer got a new cover for the tub.
Mow the lawn.
Check out the Central AC unit.
I cant think of anything else. If summer didnt involve these things, id be a happier person lol.
And Warmer weather means more outside projects in general.

Last weekend I gave the lawnmower it's first workout, dethatching the dead grass. 8 garbage bags later, I had half the yard done.
lol
Then I went through and pruned all my trees because the buds are beginning to pop, so I was runnign out of time.
Took that load to the dump, along with all my bathroom reno waste.
I was up on a ladder yesterday pulling leaves and debris from my rain gutters, emptied out all the crap from our planters, measured the old fence between me and my neighbor because we're going to replace it....and measured up my deck because I might want to reconfigure it a bit.
Next in line is to build a shed, dig out and frame a terraced garden, tear down/rebuild the fence, and get my landscape on.
My summer "vacations" are anything but. I work longer days in the summer....
lol

Yard work. Gotta learn how to prune some plants back without killing them.
Patch a hole in the gutter.
Evict some hornets from their nest.
Cutback our neighbors tree that drops sh!t all over our backyard. (This ones separate from the pruning at the top of the list because I can care less if the tree dies)
Rebuild and/or rewrap scratching posts for cats

Buy these:

Felco pruners are worth every cent they cost. They cut clean and have great power.
I'm running on 6 years with mine, and they get put to major use every year. Never had to sharpen them yet.
Next, prune only in the late fall and early spring when the trees are dormant (I never looked where you live, so check local growing data for specific trees)
.
Never prune off more than 25% of the crown of the tree.
Prune off any branch segments that are growing downward, inward, or crossing over/into other "more important" branches.
That's a good starting point. Also, I don't prune any more than a few wee things off a new tree for the first few years.
Hope that helps.

Fo sho. I know more now than I did a few minutes ago, thats for sure.
Anything else around the house to fix/maintain is no problem, but keeping plants/yard healthy is new and a little daunting.
Good lookin out.

Around my place there isn't anything to do since its an apartment but over at my parents place, sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit. Where do I even begin, maintaining the 13 or so acres is a fuckin full time job in itself. 4 acres give or take a couple square hundred feet which has a post in rail fence around it for the horse and a donkey. Always repairing broken fence boards. Fence line needs to be weed whacked at least once every 5 to 6 days, can't say once a week because about every 3rd week there will be a week when it needs to be done twice.
Maintaining my landscapes. Love it, trying to manipulate these 6 ft tall American Boxwoods into a spirally pyramid shape. It's a process that takes about 2 springs to complete and I just started it and I have no idea how it will turn out. A lot of light, delicate pruning. But the good thing is once I get done spending 4 hours on each bush I don't have to touch it for another 3 or so weeks.
Lots of pruning and transplanting of other plants, azaleas, forsythia and a shit ton of perennials.
My shit looks good.

Well considering I went as far as starting my own nursery years back, one can say I love landscaping. I want to do a Japanese themed garden, a bunch of Weeping Japanese Maples built into a steep grade wither a water fall landing in a coy pond. Ferms on the "banks".
