Because I'm way too lazy to even switch my headset from my ps3 to ps4, I decided to just get a second headset
went ahead and picked up a refurbished A40 off Amazon direct from Astro ($100 cheaper)
arrived yesterday
I haven't had a chance to really put it through it's paces, but right off the bat it's WAY more comfortable than the px21s and it doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart at any moment
I'll put up a full review once I get some gaming in this weekend, I'm expecting good things

I picked some up at the end of black ops, before I got rid of the game. Refurbished aswell from Astro/Skullcandy on ebay. The are very comfy and built solid, but the headset is overrated. It doesnt sound like a 250 dollar headset and I would of been pissed if I had paid full price. I can compare the sound quality and soundstage to the tritton x720, which I bought used for 90 bucks then sold for 60.
The mix amp is a different story. The 2013 model came out with 4 equalizer settings. It has settings for soundwhoring, music, movies, general gaming. Its hands down the best in the game but needs to be paired with a different headset to be used to its full potential. Check out Mad Lust Envy's gaming headset guide for suggestions on a better headset.
The only issue I have with this setup is the balancing of voice and game volumes. There is a dial that goes from 100% game to 100% voice and 50/50 in the middle but I just can't seem to find the right balance that I was used to with the P21's.

good to know
since I didn't pay full price, I'm happy to check out other options if it doesn't do it for me

Don't get me wrong, it is a nice headset and it gets the job done. However, I was expecting more out of it.

there's a reason 90% of every "professional" gamer uses Astro a40's.

Headsets? It is a luxury I can not buy.
I can but gaming is expensive as it is. No need for extra costs.
Those headphones that come with the PS4? That where it’s at, son! 2000 called. Headphones so shitty I did not hear what they said but they sounded angry.

Its also due to the daisy chaining of headsets. At tournaments, it connects all players on the team. Not sure of any other mixamps with that capability before the new turtle beaches.
Astro is not even the mlg sponsor anymore.

just put in a bit more than an hour using the A40s on Battlefield 4
HUGE difference from the px21s, sounds were gigantic and crystal clear. I could hear vehicles much further away than normal, and directionality is pretty distinct versus the px21s with DSS.
I'm not sure if they're worth $250, but I feel like I got my money's worth for the $150 I paid.
good shit
