Alpha the Cable Guy; Questions
Tue Aug 20, 2013 7:15 pm
#47072Heyyy Buddy.
I got some questions.
If you are sent out to repair lines and find out the cable inside the house is out of date.
AG59 and the one running from the poles are AG6. Does the person(you) have to change the cable line inside the house or the home owner?
Thank you.

RG-59 old ass thin cable not worthy of a digital signal. It will tile, it will cause loss over shorter distances, it can cause data drops to cable modem.
RG-6 is the thicker upgraded coax. The providers responsibility stops at the end of their line outside the house. They can get it working inside for you, but that's all your lines. You could pay a 1 time fee and have them replace it, or see if there is a maintenance plan (like insurance for cable) couple bucks a month and they take care of all your inside lines at no charge.

House is 27 years old so everything is outdated.
So now I have to buy cable, cutters, connectors, etc just for a one in a life time job.

or you could buy a 50 ft premade cable and run it to the room you need. Why you replacing them all?

#47097I thought I could do that too, but I can't.Alpha wrote:or you could buy a 50 ft premade cable and run it to the room you need. Why you replacing them all?
The line I'm replacing runs through conduits inside the walls of a concrete house. From the outside to the living room. So if I bought a pre-made, the head would most likely get damaged along the way of pulling it through. I just have to replace the main line, leading from the outside of the house to the main box inside. :/

Pulling it through with string yeah?
Put some plastic bag over then end, then wrap tape over it

black vinyl tape is good enough, don't make a big nut

If you have conduit, then the pull should be fairly easy and its at least 1/2 inch right? it won't make a 90 degree hard bend, hope you put sweeping angles in those walls.

#47139I have no idea what is inside the walls of the house. I am younger than the house. House is old. The person who built doesn't remember. (My grandpa). I tried to pull the old one out and that fucker was stuck! NO movement and I just tore the both ends. I tried snaking it and it got stuck on something along the way so I can't snake. So I had to make something else.

No, but 1 loose connection between the office and your phone jack can. Wire is about to break somewhere, when it does you have no phone lol

#47339Ok Just double checking because my old line had all sorts of shit in it.Alpha wrote:No, but 1 loose connection between the office and your phone jack can. Wire is about to break somewhere, when it does you have no phone lol
I ran a new RG6 and telephone line and hooked everything up nicely. Man, I wish you would come and hook me up with 900 channels and a 40meg internet. lol

That be the provider. I could show up, but without $2 million worth of equipment backing, a person won't change a thing lol.

You run a coax 500 ft and you'd be happy with 50% production.

I heard braiding coconut hair into your lines will increase connections by 17%... true?
