This is different. This one has a more filled world than the previous. Too bad the blur ruins the textures, it would be nice to see how far along their texture pack is at this point. I also wish you could see the draw distance in the early build. That would show their engine's efficiency, since at this point optimizing for PS3/360 on their limited hardware would be difficult to see vast draw distance increases post map development.

There is nothing more awesome to see than a phoenix rising from its own ashes. They always bring change to the world
I think their first few games will be awesome because they want their fans back. No bullshit perks, everything well-thought off and stuff like that. The game will have bad things but it ain’t no MW2 :p
The rest of their games, however, will depend on their publisher and how big their fanbase got.

I was saying last night that I don't have high hopes for what they will release.
I mean, yes, they were behind COD4, but they were also behind MW2, which, IMO, became the most broken game since....ever.
"The Community" that we loathe so much, provides the feedback to developers. I mean, seriously....after the epic fail job that BO's perks and guns ended up being, you'd have thought that MW3 would have nerfed a few guns and definately a few perks.
However, they buffed them.
Blame the "new" crew making the game, but, IMO, they are just doing what we think they aren't doing: Listening to the community.
The community wants the games that we end up seeing. They want OP guns, way OP perks, Shtty maps, OP killstreaks, etc.
They are merely delivering the masses with the training wheels they require to succeed. When they do, they see fat bank accounts.

Kaz, keep in mind that they didn't control MW2. Some PC players dug into the code and found the dead code from the original MW2 that IW wanted to build. It wouldn't have turned COD into the cash cow that Activision wanted though, so they made them change.

yeah, EA won't be the pricks that Activision tend to be in exerting control.
they also know that if they want to beat COD, they have to make a better game, not just a game with more bullshit
which would be spawn, launch nuke, die, respawn, launch nuke
that's MW4 (patent pending)

We can blame activision, but again, they will still be at the mercy of profit. If they get rid of QS'ing, easy mode AR's, laser sniper SMG's, KS's that play the game for you, kdr stats, objective games that permit degradation by farmers, then we're left with another COD failure by a non COD brand.
Hopes are about as low for Respawns game as they are for BO2.
"The community" dictates the game.
We are not representative of the community.

You're basing everything off the COD model; both MoH and BF3 (as well as BFBC2) has a very different community and they're MUCH more balanced games than COD with regards to weapons, maps, and kill streaks (in MoH). If they simply took Battlefield, gave it the COD smoothness and map size, but kept the weapons and lack of perks, you would LOVE the game. Respawn has the potential to do exactly that.

Remember that Battlefield is an older series, so DICE couldn't just turn it into a COD type game without a huge backlash from their LOYAL players. Respawn has a brand new IP. They can do whatever they want with no such restrictions.

I don't care how loyal anyone wants to be to the Respawn crew, but face it, they HAVE been doing market research on what the MAJORITY of FPS gamers want.
Back in April, they ranked all FPS games based on sales, every COD game came ahead of anything else, BF and Halo included.
The gaming community, has, by far, been not only touched, but thoroughly molested by the COD franchise.
Love to share your optimism, but I've heard from reputable sources (L3 cough, cough) that BF and some modes of MoH isn't that much different from what COD is like.
The community can, and certainly WILL, **** things up to the point of a Chisa / kaz / scrub aneurism.

We need to stop looking at anything remotely cod related and using the word potential.
We are not the target audience anymore, now the audience needs to be rewarded for zero effort.
Mw3 was where my expectations fell, not just my expectation but my interest in gaming.
Mw3 took away all that, even with a group, anything more than a casual gamer would get screwed over. I have topped a lobby, been bottom of the next lobby, same players, connection and map.
If cod is mentioned anywhere from now on, my money is staying in my pocket. This series isn't made for me, it's made for the oma ghost assassin users of the franchise.

There is 1 thing COD has done right. (Yes, I said COD). The Engine that the game is built on, is far superior to anything out there.
The original DEV team of IW, and now are at Respawn KNOW THAT.
Im not expecting miracles. But I am expecting a playable game. Afterall, what will be the core community that is looking for this game to come out? It will be players and people just like US. People that loved COD4. People that know the names West and Zampella (or if you didnt know those names... at least heard them before). We know how shit the community is, and how bad COD's reach has gotten on the FPS market.
However, we have to try and believe that people that have been Following Respawns creation will know how to play goddamn video games... and hope the numbers are high.

Well, for one thing, they have repeatedly stated that they are making a Sci-Fi shooter, one that competes with Halo and Gears. That fact alone will deter some people from buying into the new franchise.
Also, I know that even Alpha has mentioned that some of the wreckers he used to play with became the players we hate.
We have to face one inevitable fact, the COD4 era gamer is an aging demographic....starting careers, families, and having 'other sht going on'. I'm sure some have remained, but think of all those we know who have been completely put off the genre / franchise because of what it has become?
The new generation of gamer is the same as the new generation of youth. They need more things to hold thier interest. They need instant gratification and instant success. Working toward something, earning something, developing and honing skills isn't a top priority.
I mean, in 10 years teaching, I've been in touch with a lot of the 'new wave' of COD gamer. There is nothing wrong with assasssin, nothing wrong with glitching and hacking, nothing wrong with corner sitting for a Reaper, nothing wrong with using every OP thing in the game, nothing wrong with utilizing exploits for personal gain, nothing wrong with losing TDM or Domination as long as you get a good KD.....the list goes on.
These are the people developers listen to. These are the millions that make solo gaming experiences intolerable because they comprise 5/6ths of the enemy team...sometimes 6/6.
They can make a game be and do whatever they want, but there is a conditioning that has taken place and as we've said many times, the community can fck anything up.
No assassin, no killstreaks, no stats....people will still sit in corners and give security camera killcams.

IW engine (and "MW3 Engine" too, since they didn't call it IW4 to respect Sledgehammer) is based off idTech 3 though. But I suppose that's irrelevant, they only used idTech 3 to get COD2 off the ground. But IW engine has so many improvement now.
Interesting note, IW4 was used for MW2 and includes the excellent texture streaming technology to allow for larger rendering zones (the campaign maps were HUGE), but Black Ops was based off the old IW3 (the COD4 and WAW engine) because they weren't familiar with IW4. Now Black Ops 2 is gonna be off IW3 AGAIN (called Black Ops 2 Engine though) but includes TONS of improvement Treyarch made such as improved texture blending and finally DX11 for the PC. And zombies will be run on the multiplayer engine instead of singleplayer.
I'm glad they are using something they are familiar with (IW3), but that engine is so old that I'm not sure what to think. I hope the lighting and rendering optimizations are good. I don't want another engine that bogs down on certain maps. MW3, as bad as it is, has an awesome engine that rarely ever bogs down.
@Kaz. COD is now a Sci-Fi shooter too. I just hope when they says "Sci-Fi" shooter, they don't mean its gonna be a slow boring Halo type game (Most overrated game ever)

MW3 isn't Sci-Fi. None of the predecessors were Sci-Fi.
They claim BO2 will be more futuristic, but as far as I've seen, they have far more basis in reality than fantasy.
Halo is Sci-Fi. No COD is, or ever will be, anything close to that.
But if RE is looking to compete with Halo, expect more sci fi than COD.

Halo is fun, though it's a bit too cartoonish (4 may be more gritty). It takes camping out of the game because if you can't move and shoot, you have no chance at winning. It may take 10 bullets to kill, but that also means camping is not a successful strategy.
Being more like Halo would actually be a good thing for us.

No being more like Quake would be better for us. So fast paced that if you stop moving at all you'll be dead. Those maps are designed to be very open though, no room has only 1 entrance. Remember, the engine isn't the only aspect. Treyarch and Sledgehammer are both awful at map design.
