Someone reply to this topic, so I can understand anything. I can't play because of getting disconnected every 10 minutes.. and so much has changed since early DLC #1 dropping.
I know how much you all love this game, so do not feel obligated. If it feels like a chore, pass on doin this for me (And maybe anyone else who finds it online). But there has been so much change and I cannot keep up with all the weapons and lights and ascending and leveling and whatever else this game offer's now. I thought when HoW dropped i would be able to pop in and pick up and go. Natas has pretty much got it down now, but I am only managing to play in 10 minute sessions every 4 days, so when I get on the game (PRAYING I DO NOT GET DISCONNECTED).. I only have time to pick up a bounty and barely finish it before im disconnected. I dont have time to look over my inventory and do the proper things to it.
How's about a go to guide I and maybe other internet dwellers can refer to when we start scratching our head over stuff?

No expert here, and I'm sure Chisa can correct me or elaborate on anything I miss, but as I understand it:
Level cap is now 34. A full set of vendor gear (+36 light a piece) will put you at 32. From there, you can use Etheric Light to upgrade old armor to +42 light, or obtain new armor already at the new cap from Prison of Elders, Trials of Osiris, or new exotics. Any combination of those will get you to 34.
Unless you are trying to level up old armor/weapons, shards and energies in all their forms are now relatively useless. They can be traded in to the Speaker for Motes of Light. Motes are now required for some leveling up of gear, and re-rolling weapon perks (done at the gunsmith in the tower).
Etheric Light can upgrade old armor and all weapons to year one max (+42 and 365)
Prison of Elders has four difficulties, 28, 32, 34, and 35. Fireteams are 3 guardians. Only the lvl 28 PoE has matchmaking. Armor cores are obtained from the lvl 32 PoE. Weapon cores and Etheric Light are obtained from lvl 34 and 35 PoE. Cores can be turned in to Variks in the Reef for rewards. A treasure key is required to open the center chest in the treasure room. One treasure key a week is guaranteed from the first queens bounty you turn in. Others can be found in the ether chests hidden near queens bounty kills, and also the left/right chests in treasure room.
Trials of Osiris is the PvP equivalent of Prison of Elders, I don't **** with it. If thats more your thing, there is some nice gear to be found there.
Raids still have the best gear.
tl/dr: If you like Pvp, get a Thorn. If you like PvE, get a Gjallerhorn.
Also... Grind is still grind. If you didn't like it before, probably not gonna get much from it now.

What I'd add to Squirrel's list, is the "easiest" way to get yourself from 30-32, and then 34
Strikes and the Crucible
Strikes and Crucible matches reward vanguard marks and crucible marks, respectively, these can be turned in at the appropriate vendor for armor (and weapons), as long as you're level 3 on both. You're capped at earning only a certain amount per week, but between the two of them, you'll be able to purchase 3 pieces of new armor that have the new level of 32. The 4th piece of armor you'll be wearing should be exotic, which can be increased to the highest light level possible through the use of an exotic shard (purchased from Xur, or received by breaking down a piece of exotic armor or weapon).
Once that is done, you'll be at level 32.5. From here, you have a few choices:
1. Do the level 32 Prison of Elders, which will give you an "armor core", which will allow you to purchase a level 34 piece of armor from Variks. It rotates weekly, so be careful to consider what piece you want/need and look at the stats. Up until this point, all the armor has had stats that were strength only, obviously this changes how your guardian reacts in certain situations.
2. Hope for an etheric light drop in the Nightfall, that allows you to make any piece of armor (or weapon) have the max allowed stats. Etheric light also drops from the level 34 and 35 Prison of Elders, but it's hard to get through those until you're actually 34. If you use the purchased armor from #1, you'll probably want to use the etheric light to upgrade armor that more suitably rounds out your disipline/intellect/strength as you see fit.
Once I got an etheric light from PoE, I upgraded armor I got from the Vault of Glass, so my main character has very even numbers (slight edge to strength). Of course, as I continue to run PoE, this will change too. In a sense, they've made it a bit easier to reach max light level, but they've given more of a focus on having armor stats that suit you as an individual player.
