I'm going to use this thread to talk about aspects of boxing and Muay Thai, both what I'm training, and stuff I'm working out on my own (combos, technique videos, real life examples of stand up bad assery)
to start off basic, to me, there's no one who could hit the heavy bag (or a person), like Tyson in his prime
dat power

to start with a combo I've been working on, it's become a quick favorite as being a southpaw tends to throw people off a bit...
1 (jab), 2 (cross), dodge, 3 (right hook), low kick (my left leg)
with my long reach, I tend to get the 1-2 consistently, the 3 may or may not land, but the three punches themselves take the other person's mind off any possibility of a kick and the low kick ALWAYS lands

as far as gear goes:
for bag work/sparring:
for pad work (when I want less weight on my hands and going for speed/precision):

need to look into a new set of 14-16oz. Mine are ripping from putting them on with my teeth
sparring wise I love the Piranha 4oz. The solid finger/backhand material is much more comfortable on the knuckles than the gloves that are 2 separate cuts.
I watch so many Tyson highlights but they're all 10 minutes long instead of highlight KOs

Shin guards are the basic Venom, $25-$30. Great for low bag work. Able to kick for minutes longer without the shins hitting the sand bags.

I use a no name brand of the exact same type of shin guard, works fantastic

That small piece of foam is enough to give a warning not to kick there again. Instead of it feeling like someone thunked your shin with a hammer

Muay Thai plum. Lock fingers together and introduce their face to your knee lol
Love watching a thai dance of someone unloading alternate knees to a person trying to cover up.

worked this on pads the other night, at least, a similar version....instead of the combo, if they come rushing back in, we threw a rear elbow

The elbows feel so good. They hit so flush and no pain. Just solid bone on meat
Want to find some good vids on Mauy thai and TKD bag works. Some kick/punch combos that can be practiced 100 times over in 25 minutes. Been doing 5-5min rounds for cardio. Went to track last night for 1st time in months and ran 3.9 miles in 30 minutes. So the bag work is helping.

bag work and skipping rope are an off the charts cardio workout
I'll keep an eye open for some good combo bag work videos, but even just writing down some combos (kicks/elbows included) and sticking with one per round, will kick your ass
elbows are so god damned sneaky too, quick

Elbows don't take near the power surge as a punch. its so quick and snap movement. And it hit harder and digs into the bag, you can feel the face splitting open when you land an elbow, bare fist punching you just feel your own bones cracking. Like a good shin kick to the ribs, that certain slap sound just screams pain.

Had to step it up for the training intensity. New shin guards about to be ordered along with a 6ft 150lb Thai bag
These on sale for $60, beats the $170 versions
And the Outslayer bag has best prices at $250 free shipping filled. NO sand! 100% fabric, made sure to find that in the search. You can order an unfilled bag for $100 but I don't feel like shredding 150lbs of fabric and stuffing that thing for 5 hours.

Check with your boxers to see if there is anymore benefit to using 12oz gloves over 16.

16 is for bag work, 12 is for sparring

But you could train with 12s also to better gauge your speed and arm stamina ? The amount of hand speed going from the big gloves to the 4oz is a whole new set of punch combos

The thinking is that the 16s give more hand protection for the bag, but if you hit a human with them, it'll be unnecessarily heavily and potentially dangerous, but if you've got good form, no reason you can't use 12s on the bag too

Yeah, when you're training kicks, the shin guards help both people protect their legs

Sparring, more for touch kicking to save bruises. Or if you plan on kicking a bag 30 minutes and don't want the 200 slaps on the foot feel
